Welcome to my blog!

You may be wondering if this is yet another wellness blog that preaches about the importance of healthy eating and regular exercise.

Yes and no.

While I do encourage these practices, my approach is unique as it aims to empower and motivate you to

become the healthiest version of yourself

- both physically and mentally.

I want to guide you on a journey of self-discovery towards finding your inner health. Are you ready to walk with me? It may require stepping out of your comfort zone at times and questioning mainstream health advice promoted by the media. My posts will encourage you to look beyond the traditional definitions of health and illness that our society has adopted.

As someone who has studied, practised and researched medicine for years, I am equipped to provide you with unbiased and independent information to help navigate the ever-changing world of food and health trends.

In my "Food & Nutrition" section, I will debunk common food myths and offer reliable nutritional advice. You may be surprised by some of my recommendations, as they differ from the messages propagated by the food and pharmaceutical industries. Nonetheless, I hope to show you that cooking nourishing meals can be simple, enjoyable, and rewarding.

While I appreciate the knowledge and insights gained throughout my academic journey, I have realised that textbooks and hospitals did not fully prepare me for leading a healthy and enriching life.

Life is my best teacher.

As a paediatrician, I learned much about raising healthy children. However, I discovered I could also learn a lot from my kids. Living in the present moment, having hope, expressing feelings, seeing life with a sense of wonder, and being authentic comes naturally to most children. As parents, we are responsible for nurturing our children's minds and bodies and serving as healthy role models. But we can also try to embrace some of their behaviours and mindsets, such as playfulness and mindfulness, which can significantly enhance our overall wellbeing. If you want a balanced approach to raising healthy children, check out my posts in the "Family Life" section. I'll share ideas on a parenting model emphasising mutual respect and laughter while including responsibilities, traditions, independence, and liberty.

Physical, mental and emotional health are equally important and intimately intertwined in what's known as the mind-body connection.

Exercise has the power to strengthen the body and mind.

I discovered the true meaning of health through my love for mountain biking. I learned that being well does not always mean being comfortable. Mountain biking taught me to confront challenges, embrace discomfort and take risks, contributing immensely to my personal growth and development. I will share some life lessons I learned in the "Mountain Biking" category. I will elaborate on the power of our thoughts, the importance of cultivating joy and excitement, the beauty of embracing mistakes as learning opportunities, and our essential need for belongingness.

You don't have to start mountain biking, but I encourage you to find activities and habits that foster: positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishments. These are five evidence-based elements for achieving true happiness and fulfilment in life.

As I approach midlife, many of the books I’ve been reading and podcasts I’ve been listening to have centered around one topic: menopause.

While I’m not an expert, I want to share my personal approach to this life stage—embracing menopause with an open mind, free from assumptions. I’m more committed than ever to staying active, managing stress, and seeking support during this transformative phase. I’m willing to put in the effort it takes to remain healthy, independent, and vibrant—so I can fully enjoy the decades ahead.

I’ll be sharing my tips and tricks—along with my wins and losses—because vulnerability and authenticity rules!

Health is not just the absence of disease.

I have learned to see health holistically, where nourishing food and exercise are as important as rest, laughter, having meaningful connections, and experiencing a sense of adventure and growth.

Complete wellbeing means flourishing - finding fulfilment through life's peaks and valleys.

My blog is more than medical advice and nutrition information.

It is food for thought.

It encourages you to question societal expectations and self-imposed judgments.

I will challenge you to leave your comfort zone to make choices that align with your values and needs.

Hopefully, you will discover your unique definition of health and wellbeing.

My name is Lena, and I am both excited and nervous about this blog.

These two emotions are an excellent combination to foster growth and success.

So, please watch this space!

I hope you find some inspiration in my words.
