Comfort Food That Loves You Back

Soups: the winter wellness staple

Soup season is self-care: Simple. Seasonal. Satisfying.
Soup season is self-care: Simple. Seasonal. Satisfying.

There’s something undeniably comforting about sitting down to a warm bowl of soup in winter — it’s like a hug for your insides. But beyond the cozy vibes, soups are also a powerhouse of nutrition and one of my favourite ways to nourish both body and soul when the weather turns cold.

Why Soups Are So Good for You

In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to miss out on the fibre, vegetables, and slow nourishment our bodies crave. That’s where soup comes in — a simple, delicious way to pack in diverse nutrients like polyphenols, vitamins, and fibre from whole foods.

Soups are especially helpful in winter, when we tend to eat fewer raw veggies and gravitate toward heavier, more comforting meals. A well-made soup strikes the perfect balance — warming, satisfying, and deeply nourishing without weighing you down.

Soup as a Wellness Tool

One of the reasons I love soups so much is their versatility. You can batch-cook them, freeze them, and reheat them without losing flavour or nutrition — perfect for busy weeks or for anyone wanting to eat more home-cooked meals without constant effort. For me, soups are the ultimate winter lunch go-to: quick, warming, and endlessly customisable.

They’re also a great base for adding extra goodness — I love sprinkling hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, or ground flax or nutritional yeast on top for a boost of protein, fibre, and healthy fats. It’s a simple way to make your bowl even more nourishing, with zero extra prep.

At the moment, I’m testing recipes for my upcoming Winter 21-Day Health Challenge, and soups will absolutely be featured on the menu.

A few favourites I’m loving right now:

🥣 Spiced Roasted Cauliflower Soup — warming and earthy with a gentle kick

🍅 Creamy Tomato — the ultimate comfort bowl with a nourishing twist

🥕 Hearty Lentil & Root Veg Soup — fibre-rich, filling, and full of flavour

Want to Cook Along?

If you’re looking for new recipe ideas or just a little winter inspiration, I’d love for you to join my next 21-Day Health Challenge (starting in July 2025). We’ll be focusing on seasonal nourishment, simple routines, and realistic ways to feel your best — even in the darkest months.

Soup isn’t just food — it’s medicine, comfort, and nourishment all in one bowl. So grab your favourite pot, chop some veggies, and let your kitchen fill with warmth.

Your body (and your soul) will thank you.
